A zapp is a small bite sized piece of information that delivers fun/entertainment. In its current avatar the zapp is text-only and can be a Poll, Trivia, or Shout. The primary reason for limiting zapps to text at this point is to ensure that every user regardless of mobile device type can access these zapps. Our zapp is ambitious and is expected to take on new forms over time - in multiple languages, different text-only interaction/play mechanisms, and certainly multi-media as data adoption becomes more mainstream. We will free up these zapps in the near term by opening up our platform and letting others build applications on it.
The zappatap application has three modes for user interaction – SMS commands, downloadable mobile application and the Web. Users get similar functionality across all interfaces, though each will have its own advantages. For example, SMS commands are a quick and easy way to get started but for more complex commands the mobile application could be an easier interface.
Currently a zapp is limited to 100 characters (question and answers). We need some overhead to include instructions along with the zapp but over time as familiarity increases we will possibly provide more zapp characters.
There are three ways in which you register (1) SMS: when you interact with our server for the first time (ex: to get zapps or reply to one) you are assigned a zappID and registered into our system (2) Mobile Application: when you download our application a zappID is assigned to your mobile # and you are registered into our system (3) Web: when you register on the web you must have a zappID either obtained via SMS/Application or you can request one from the registration page by entering your mobile#. A zappID is an identifier that we use to tie your various contact data together and over time we will also enable flexibility to have multiple phone #/email support. An Alias is used to identify your public profile. Both a zappID and Alias are unique to a user.
Why and how should I download the zappatap mobile application? Why should I provide a mobile #? Will it work for my phone?
The mobile application provides two primary benefits: (1) it makes it easy to play zappatap since the functionality has been presented on a convenient user interface (2) it makes it possible for a user to "backup" their phone contacts to our server and then to use these contacts to set-up groups, which can subsequently be used in SMS play mode. In order to use the mobile application the user must have a data enabled phone (and a data plan). In order to download the application a user can use the download page on our website. The user is asked to provide a mobile # so that we can pre-assign a zappID to that user. Once the user enters their mobile# a download link is sent via SMS to the user and the application can be downloaded over the air. Alternatively the user is presented with the option to download the application to their PC and then to upload the application to their phone. Once the application is installed on a users' phone it will show up under the Games or Applications menu. The application will require permissions when it is to be downloaded/installed and also to transmit data to our servers and we recommend that the user accepts these requests. The application is phone model specific and we will be supporting a wide variety of phone models and if we do not currently support your phone we will send out a link as soon as your model is supported.
As a guest user you can respond to and comment on zapps. You can also share zapps with others via Email or SMS. A guest can subscribe to another user. A guest can also initiate SMS Play mode with the "tap new" command. Once a guest interacts via SMS play or subscribes to a user they will be considered to be registered.
A public zapp is displayed on the website (home page) and visible to all users (including guests). A private zapp is only shared by the creator with a select number of users.
There are 3 ways to create a zapp: (1) SMS: use the SMS commands provided to create zapps (2) Mobile App: go to the Games icon and then Create tab and select the type of zapp you would like to create and then choose the public option (3) Web: Login to your account and click on the Create Zapp link to get to the zapp creation form.
There are 3 ways to respond to a zapp: (1) SMS: use the SMS commands provided to respond to a zapp that you receive (2) Mobile App: go to the Respond tab and select the Category of zapp you would like to respond to and then submit your answer (3) Web: Respond as a guest or after logging in by clicking on the Answer options. If you are logged in, the zapp will not be shown to you again and any zapps you respond to will be shown on your Responded page. Responding to zapps from your mobile phone results in points being accrued - however you can only respond to any zapp once (using any of the 3 options).
There are 2 ways to comment on a zapp: (1) SMS: use the SMS commands provided to comment on a zapp that you receive (2) Web: Comment as a guest or after logging in by clicking on the "x Comments" link - this will open up a comments section below the zapp and you can add a comment.
Think of subscriptions as a means to gain access to a "channel" of content. The content producer/channel owner in this case is another user. When you subscribe to a user, it means that every time that user creates a Public zapp (via the web, SMS or mobile application), you will receive an SMS with that zapp included and you can then respond/comment to it. Hence the zapps from the channels (users) you subscribe to are "broadcast" to you via SMS. The idea is that you can subscribe to your friends or users whom you find interesting or premium zapp users who may have rewards tied to their zapps. A good way to figure out who to subscribe to is to check out their public profile by hovering over their image with your mouse - find out about the user, their zapp stats (how many subscribers, zapps created). Another way to check out the user is to click on their alias below their image and this will present all the zapps this user has created and you can get a feel for whether this is someone you would like to subscribe to.
As a guest, you can share zapps via the web by using the SMS or Email to a friend features. However once you do send a zapp via SMS a zappID will be assigned to your mobile # and you will be registered in our system. Note that if you receive a zapp from someone and you are not registered yet, but you forward the zapp using our SMS command, you are then registered into our system.
As a registered user you can use the web features described above but you also have additional options. (1) SMS: You can use the forward command to send a zapp to another user. (2) Mobile App: After you respond to a zapp you will be presented with the option to share the zapp to other users from your contacts list and you can choose to do so at this point.
Only registered users can create private zapps. The user has two options: (1) SMS commands can be used to create and send private zapps to mobile#'s or groups (2) Mobile App: When a user creates a zapp they are provided with an option to make it public or share it - if a user chooses the Share option the zapp is private and the user can select from their contacts or groups to share this zapp.
A private zapp can NOT be shared or forwarded. Only the creator of the zapp makes the decision on who will receive the zapp during the process of creating a private zapp.
A user can see zapps created by them on the web or via the mobile application. In the case of the web the My Zapps page shows the user the zapps created by them. Both public and private zapps created by the user are shown. Latest stats for polls are displayed and for trivia the wrong/right answer choice. A user can also see the zapps they create on the mobile application by going to the My Zapps page.
The user can see zapps that they responded to in a similar manner as they see zapps that they created (described above) except only on the web. In this case the user goes to the Responded page.
When a zapp is shared or forward to a user, the user will receive a SMS with that zapp included. The user can respond/comment to the zapp via SMS. A user can see zapps shared with them via the web or mobile application (or forwarded to them via SMS) on the web or via the mobile application. In the case of the web the Shared page shows the user the zapps shared with them. Both public and private zapps shared with the user are shown. The user can respond to these zapps from the Shared page. However once the user responds to the zapp either by SMS, mobile app or web, the zapp will get moved to their Responded page. A user is able to see comments posted to that zapp on the Shared page. A user can also see the zapps shared with them on the mobile application by going to the Shared page.
A user can block users from sharing/forwarding zapps with them by using the block SMS commands.
A user can see their subscriptions on the web on their Subscribed page and on the "Subscribed by you" tab. Users whom you have subscribed to are listed on this page. Users can choose to stop subscriptions with the Stop button provided. Users can also stop the subscription via SMS Command.
Where can I see users who have subscribed to me? How can I stop someone from being subscribed to me?
A user can see users subscribed to them on the web on their Subscribed page and on the "Your Subscribers" tab. You can stop users from being subscribed to you with the Stop button provided.
When a user registers via the web a few "contact" fields are mandatory. Some of these fields can also be modified via the mobile application on the profile tab. A user can also add additional profile information and social information from the web by clicking on their alias (on top) after login.
Once you download the mobile application, go to the Friends icon and then Contacts tab and use the Backup soft key to upload contacts. The uploaded contacts will then be accessible to you via the web. We are also planning to extend this feature (upon user demand) and provide users with a backup/contacts manager utility. In the future we will also enable users to pull in friends from social networking sites, etc.
Users can add contacts manually via the web. Go to your Contacts page and then on the Contacts tab you can add in new contacts (please note that these contacts are not being synced back to your mobile phone - these are only used by users for Group creation).
Users can create a group in two ways: (1) SMS commands can be used to create groups (2) On the web, a user can go to the Contacts page and then to the Groups tab and select contacts (either uploaded from a users mobile phone or manually added via the web) and group them. Groups created via SMS are also visible and can also be edited as needed.
Once you download the mobile application, go to the Friends icon-Contacts tab and use the Backup soft key to sync back groups from the web onto your mobile application. Please note that these groups will not be reflected in your phone address book and only reside on our application.
We have separated contacts from friends - contacts come from your phone address book or are manually added by you via the web. A contact may be someone whom you may not want in your friends list (a plumber, a parent!). In order for contacts to become friends, two options are available - invite or approval (1) You can directly invite a contact to become a friend. On your contacts page on the web or on the mobile application, you can select contacts and invite them to be friends. These users will get an SMS requesting them to confirm that they want to be your friend and can reply back with "tap ok
A user is able to update their status (What are you doing) via the web or the mobile application. On the web and mobile application you will find this field on your Profile page/tab and on the mobile application. In the future we will also enable users to update their status from external sites (Ex: social networks, twitter, etc). You can see your friends' status under the "Friends" tab on the mobile application and on the web on your Friends page.
We determine a users' presence (activity) by tracking when a user last accessed our server. Subsequently we are able to display your friends' as Active on the Friends tab on the mobile application. Only friends (not contacts) can view each others presence status and on the web on your Friends page.
A premium channel is created by a premium user. A premium user is typically a marketer (of a product or service) or a subject expert and who has paid a fee to gain access to such an account. A premium user creates premium zapps that get special placement on the web and SMS (their alias will have a * in front). A premium user can also choose to provide a reward for a particular zapp - this will help a zapp get more visibility and attention. Rules for these rewards are set-up in conjunction with CellZapp. A premium user can also append a text link Ad that is sent along with the zapp SMS. In lieu of a text Ad a premium user can append a coupon code to be sent along with the zapp SMS. The fee structure is as follows - Rs. 1000 enables a premium user to create 100 premium zapps (no time limit on utilization). If the premium user has 100 or more subscribers, then the user gets 200 premium zapps. To learn more or obtain an account please contact info@cellzapp.com.
A premium zapp is a zapp created by a premium user (channel). Premium zapps get higher visibility on the web by being placed in a separate tab. Some premium zapps can have a reward attached to them and these zapps will show up under the Reward tab on the web (and a user can checkout the reward by clicking on the gift box icon, if the premium user has inserted a link for that reward). When a reward zapp is received by SMS the alias of the creator will have a $ sign after it (ex: *delhidare$).
You can earn points by creating zapps or responding to zapps but only via your mobile (either SMS or with mobile application). These points are reflected in your profile and subject to the terms in our user agreement. Points let a user get placed on the leader board.
There are two types of rewards. The first is rewards associated with your leader board standing. For example, we may have rewards for leaders on a time basis or for some specific contest period, etc. These rewards will be pre-announced and details/rules will be indicated on the left side bar of the zappatap web site. The second reward type is associated with Reward zapps where premium users can assign a reward for a specific zapp. All reward rules are subject to reward sponsor and premium user agreements with CellZapp.
A zapp will expire in two weeks though this is subject to change by CellZapp. Once a zapp has expired no more responses or comments can be posted to it. Even after zapps have expired, their results (stats) and comments will be available to users on the website under their My, Shared, Responded pages.
There are no fees associated with the service except for premium users who pay a monthly fee. Users will need to pay for text messages (standard rates). If the service uses premium rate short code SMSs at any point, these will be highlighted to the user. Check out your cellular plan to know what you're paying for standard text messages. Consider upgrading to a bucket plan or unlimited text plan if you're sending or receiving a lot of text messages. Please note that CellZapp will bear the cost of many SMSs - for example if users subscribe to you, you do not get charged. Similarly if you send a private zapp to a group you only pay for one SMS and we pay for the SMSs sent to others in your group. Users will also be responsible for data fees for use of the mobile application. Again, consider upgrading to an unlimited data plan if you're sending or receiving a lot of zapps. Data fees for individual zapps are insignificant, but uploading contacts, downloading contacts can consume a few KB of data.
When a reward is won we will notify you via SMS and/or email.
